LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy

LGBTQ Affirming Therapy in Santa Barbara and Ventura

LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy

In today’s political climate, many LGBTQ+ individuals—especially transgender and gender-diverse people—experience heightened anxiety, fear, grief, and emotional exhaustion. Therapy can provide a space to feel grounded, supported, and understood.

My approach acknowledges the impact of systemic oppression, discrimination, minority stress, and trauma on mental health. I do not pathologize identity; instead, I help clients cultivate safety, self-compassion, and resilience. I use an integrative approach combining Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, somatic psychotherapy, depth-oriented talk therapy, and trauma-informed care to support healing from anxiety, depression, trauma, identity-related stress, and relationship challenges, with particular attention to the experiences of LGBTQ+ communities.

Transgender-Affirming Therapy for Adults & Adolescents

I have specialized experience providing transgender-affirming therapy for transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse adults and adolescents. My training includes work with the Pacific Pride Foundation, where I gained extensive education in LGBTQ+ mental health and gender-affirming care. Therapy is a space where transgender clients do not need to educate or defend their identity.

I support transgender clients with:

  • Gender identity exploration and affirmation

  • Anxiety, depression, and trauma related to transphobia

  • Navigating social and medical aspects of gender-affirming care

  • Processing family, school, or workplace stress

  • Building self-trust and embodiment

Support for Gender-Affirming Care & Loved Ones

In addition to working directly with transgender individuals, I support parents, partners, and loved ones navigating gender-affirming care. This includes helping families process fear, grief, uncertainty, and hope while strengthening connection and understanding.

I provide therapy that supports:

  • Parents of transgender and gender-diverse adolescents

  • Partners of transgender adults

  • Families navigating social or medical transition

  • oved ones impacted by political and cultural backlash

In LGBTQ+ affirming therapy, we work with:

  • Anxiety and fear related to discrimination or policy changes

  • Grief and anger around loss of safety or rights

  • Nervous system regulation and emotional resilience

  • Reconnecting with agency, values, and community

Mental Health in Today’s Political Climate

The current political environment in the United States has had a profound impact on LGBTQ+ mental health, especially for transgender and gender-diverse individuals. Anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, inflammatory public rhetoric, and ongoing uncertainty can create chronic stress, hypervigilance, and emotional burnout. It’s important to know that your feelings and reactions are valid—you are not overreacting, and it makes sense that this environment takes a toll on your well-being.
